“Equal Opportunities” T-shirt Design Competition

  

Hong Kong Community Network would like to acknowledge Hong Kong Equal Opportunities Commission for funding the activity. This T-shirtDesign Competition is held between January and February in 2017 with the topic “Equal Opportunities”. The purpose is to encourage participants thinking and understanding more about “Equal Opportunities”.

 

The competition has 3 categories (i.e. Primary school, Secondary School & Public). Awards and Prizes will be given to winners for encouraging them to learn about “Equal Opportunities”. “The Most Enthusiastically Support Equal Opportunity Activities” School Honor Award will be presented to the top five schools according to the number of entries submission.  

All winners and awarded schools will be contacted and invited to join the Award Presentation Ceremony, tentatively be held on 25th Feb., 2017, in “Equal Opportunities Harmony” Education & Careers Expo.

"Heidi Flying with the Dream" Western Folk Dance Musical Show

(HKCN organized "Heidi Flying with the Dream" Western Folk Dance Musical Show - March 27, 2016)

In order to promote cultural harmony and traditional performing arts, Hong Kong Community Network organized the "Heidi Flying with the Dream" Western Folk Dance Musical Show at Kwai Tsing Theatre on March 27, 2016. 

Mr Stephen SUI Wai-keung, JP, the Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare, HKCN's President Prof. Joe Leung, MH, JP, Chairlady Ms. Yue Mui Ying, Director of Service Mr. Fan Kwok Fai, Executive Committee Member Mr. Fu Tsun Hung, Dr. Albert WONG, MH, Miss Au Yeung Fung Ying, and Ms Chu Jing, Esther from the Hong Kong (Asia) Youth Association Limited were our honorable guests. About 900 low-income families and ethnic minorities were served to enjoy the show for free, in order to provide a platform for citizens to appreciate performing arts and to promote cultural harmony.


Innovative Musical Show Carrying Positive Messsage for the Society
"Heidi Flying with the Dream" Western Folk Dance Musical Show is the first musical show in Hong Kong using Folk Dance as the theme. The story of the musical based on the famous childhood story "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" - Heidi, a brave and cheerful girl overcame difficulties and struggles with courage and persistence. Nearly 100 dancers came from 8 schools and community units performed on stage and delivered the message of positive thinking.

Promote Art & Culture, Foster Cultural Harmony
With the theme of Folk Dance, the performance included dance from different cultural backgrounds. In addition, having some ethnic minorities as musical dancers also helped with the promotion of cultural inclusion and racial harmony.  

 

Thousand People Poon Choi Feast for the Year of the Monkey

Hong Kong Community Network (HKCN) organized the “Thousand People Poon Choi Feast for the Year of the Monkey” on March 20, 2016 at Kwai Chung Sports Ground. More than 30 guests including the Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Government Mrs Carrie Lam, GBS, JP, and the Executive Director of Henderson Land Development Company Ltd, Dr. Lee Ka Kit - GBS, JP, DBA (Hon) attended the event with more than 1000 social disadvantaged group including local ethnic minorities, elderly, and the physically disabled.

 

The theme of the event is “Harmony.Appreciate HK.Support Social Enterprise”. We accommodated the needs of Muslims and designed the “Halal Poon Choi” for them, with food including Vegetable Samosa, pokora, Aloo Tikki, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Seekh Kabab, Chicken Curry, Plain Nan, Steam Rice, Chatni and Spring roll. We hope friends of different ethnicities can experience the Chinese traditional poon choi feast together.

 

Moreover, we have also invited more than 10 local social enterprises to introduce their services in game booths and perform their talents on stage. We treat this event as an opportunity to promote social enterprises with their meaningful services. HKCN wishes participants can learn more about social enterprises through this event, and also learn to respect and care for people from different backgrounds.

 

 

 

 

Final Round for the “1st Cantonese Competition for Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong”

(The final round of the 1st Cantonese Competition – Jan 24, 2016)

The final round of the “1st Cantonese Competition for Ethnic Minorities in Hong Kong”, as well as the Award Presentation Ceremony was held in Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Hall on 24/1/2016.

 

More than 80 contestants showed their Cantonese talents on this cold Winter morning. The competition formats include Storytelling, Singing, Drama and Speech. The designated topic for the final round competition is “My Expected Hong Kong”. The aim of this competition is to show talents of ethnic minorities and provide them a chance to expressing their opinions towards their expected Hong Kong. We also wish to encourage ethnic minorities to use Cantonese in their daily lives, in order to integrate into the Hong Kong society.

 

On the event day, Mr Stephen SUI Wai-keung, JP, the Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mrs. Yeung Chan Wai Man, Candy, JP, the Assistant Director of the Home Affairs Department were our guests of Honour to officiate the ceremony. Mr. Suen Kwok Lam MH, JP, the Executive Director of the Henderson Land Development Company Limited, Dr. Kung Yan Sum and Ms. Kung Yan-sun, the Chairman and the director of the Chinachem Group also attended the ceremony to support the contestants. It is also our honor to invite our Cantonese Ambassador, Vivek Mahbubani, the famous stand-up Comedian to give a short comedy show in order to encourage local ethnic minorities in social integration!

 

About 25 prizes were presented on that day, includingprimary, secondary and public categories with individual and group entries respectively. We also presented the awards for the Drawing and Coloring Competition. We truly appreciate the efforts made by all contestants, including the 350 contestants in the preliminary round competition. Learning a language is never an easy task and it is a life-long challenge. LINK Centre will continue to do our best to serve ethnic minorities in Hong Kong and assist these talented citizens in social integration!

HKCN representatives visited the Labour department and introduced LINK Centre and its services to different business companies. Representatives discussed the situations of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong with different counterparts, and promoted the equal, racial harmonious working environment for different races. Many employers support the ethnic minorities in contributing to the society and are willing to provide more job opportunities for them!

On the Halloween night, Oct 31, 2015, LINK Centre's staff and volunteers prepared three haunted houses for children and youths to have fun together! More than 200 members attended the party and festival food and drinks are provided. Our staff also provided halloween make up for members, making the party exciting and joyful!

The Multicultural Carnival is organized by LINK Centre on 18/10/2015 to celebrate diversity! Booth games such as traditional clothing try-on, henna drawing, community resources games, and photo exhibition are conducted and shared fun with ethnic minorities and local Chinese! Award ceremony is also held to appreciate volunteers and active participants of LINK Centre, as well as winners of the Hong Kong In My Eyes Competition. We hope everyone can share happiness and equality in Hong Kong!

(HKCN Attending the Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor's Activity "唔食都得" - Oct 17, 2015)

Hong Kong Community Network participated in an anti-poverty project named "唔食都得" organized by Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor on 17/10/2015. The poverty problem in Hong Kong is getting more serious, with about 960 thousand people living under poverty. More work have to be done by the HKSAR government to tackle the problem, including building more public housing, improving the education system, as well as helping the minority in employment opportunities. We hope that different NGOs, religious groups, social enterprises and individuals can join hand in hand and assist the poor to live a better life.

 

National Day's Fireworks Show and Dinner

The 66th anniversary of the National Day of People's Republic of China - Fireworks Show and Dinner is organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organizations Ltd. and CT Environmental Group Limited on Oct 1, 2015.

Hong Kong Community Network is invited by the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organizations Ltd. to this celebration dinner. Staffs including Service Director Mr. Fan Kwok Fai, Assistant Executive Officers Lok Siu Luen, Cheung Ying Ying, and Tsang Kwong Wing, Accounts Clerk Kong Yim Wing and volunteers attended the event. We enjoyed the dinner and the firework show! We bless Hong

The Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Government Mrs Carrie Lam, GBS, JP, Chairman of Kwai Tsing District Council Mr Fong Ping, BBS, JP, Kwai Tsing District Officer Mr Alan Lo Ying Ki, JP, and and senior officer of the Home Affairs Department visited Hong Kong Community Network (HKCN) - LINK Centre on Sept 30.

HKCN's President Prof. Joe Leung, MH, JP, Chairlady Ms. Yue Mui Ying, Executive Committee Member Mr. Fu Tsun Hung, Director of Board of Directors Ms. Jessie Yu Sau Chu, BBS, MH, JP, Director of Service Mr. Fan Kwok Fai, Assistant Executive Officers Lok Siu Luen, Cheung Ying Ying, and Tsang Kwong Wing welcomed the honored guests and accompanied them to visit LINK Centre's facilities, including library, classrooms, pantry and the youth room. Guests also observed the on-going activity, "Women Mutual Group", in the classroom where the EM ladies showed their talents by drawing henna for the local Chinese ladies. In return, the Chinese ladies also introduced the Chinese tea culture to the EM ladies. At the end of the visit, our guests also communicated with our EM staffs who shared their front-line working experience. Thanks for all the support and advice from all our honored guests!
